Abide in Love Kansas City was created in April 2026 and is an affiliate of the original Abide in Love group, which formed in Rolla, MO to aid immigrants in their community and detention center. We are a non-partisan group of volunteers from a variety of spiritual backgrounds, all dedicated to peaceful advocacy and social change.

We support detainees in CoreCivic’s Midwest Regional Reception Center (MRRC) located in Leavenworth, KS. As of May 2026, many of the detainees are transfers from other ICE detention facilities; only a small handful of individuals at MRRC are from the Kansas City Metro Area. However, the landscape of ICE activity is constantly evolving and these demographics may change over time.

No! We support immigrants who have been detained by ICE for various reasons. We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion. Our mission is to offer connection, care, and practical support to individuals who have been detained.

Donations allow us to provide care packages and calling cards to individuals in ICE custody. At times, donations also assist a detainee’s family with groceries, necessities, rent assistance, or utilities. Additionally, we partner with other local organizations and groups with a similar mission to support detainees and their families.

Please see our Volunteer page for more information. Our volunteers assist with care packages, community outreach, fundraising and more. Since many detainees and their families are Spanish speaking, bilingual speakers are of great help but being bilingual is not necessary.

We believe the work we are doing is a form of protest in itself. While we do not participate in protests as a group, we do encourage our members to do so on their own behalf. We also strongly encourage reaching out directly to lawmakers to make one’s opinions known and to state how bills affecting our immigrant neighbors affect our whole community.
