We need volunteers like you! Whether you have a few hours to give or are looking for a deeper commitment, there are many ways to get involved. From community outreach and event support to advocacy and relationship-building, every contribution helps create a more welcoming and just community.

There are multiple ways to be involved with Abide in Love Kansas City.

Don’t live in the Kansas City Metro Area? There are volunteer opportunities for you, too! Read more about these opportunities marked with an asterisk (*) below.

  • This team packages and delivers a care package to CoreCivic’s Midwest Regional Reception Center
for each new immigrant detainee we begin to work with - including a sleep mask, some treats, and a note in their language telling them we love and support them.

  • Are you clergy or a pastor? Please join us as we gather our faith community for support of our immigrant families and detainees, prayer, events, and spreading the mission of Abide in Love Kansas City.

  • Community outreach volunteers connect to partner organizations and institutions in and around our community, hold presentations at meetings and events, offer info at a table or booth for events, and get creative with fundraising ideas. Community outreach will engage with KC metro area schools, churches, and groups to educate them on what is going on in our community regarding immigration enforcement. Volunteers share and spread the mission of Abide in Love Kansas City.

  • Family outreach team members assist in getting families connected to basic resources. Many families are Spanish speaking, so bilingual speakers are of great help. Needs might involve occasional transportation, resource connection, food or necessities delivery, etc. We will team up someone who has no experience with someone who does.

  • Fundraising volunteers assist in raising funds from individuals and corporate donors. We welcome creative fundraising opportunities such as fundraising drives and partnerships with local businesses. If you are not in the KC metro area, there are still ways you can volunteer with this effort by sending “Thank you” letters to donors.

  • Abide in Love and our partner organizations are often in need of legal support for our detainees or their families.

  • Pen Pals communicate directly with detainees using the approved communication channel of the facility. This is a way to offer hope and inquire about what needs a detainee or their family may have. Pen pals often assist in connecting to resources such as calling cards, legal aid, clergy visits, or coordination with family members. You do not need to be bilingual to volunteer as a pen pal.

  • Coordinators communicate with and support volunteers to ensure an effective use of time and talent. Vetting new volunteers.
